Tips on food waste disposal

Since the launch of the new garbage system on Jan. 1, which bans food waste at landfill sites, the Ministry of Environment and local governments in the metropolitan areas laid down guidelines for the separation of food wastage from other rubbish.
Accordingly, the following is not regarded to be food waste:
Cow fur and bone & pig hair and bone
Shells (of shellfish and oyster)
Nutshells & kernels from stone-fruits
Tea bags wrapped with papers or cloth
When throwing out the bone of fish, one should clean and hydrate it before placing them in the special garbage bags or trash bins exclusively for food waste. However, skins of cucumbers, onions, garlic, and eggshells are considered to be food waste.
Please contact the ward office for detailed information as the guidelines vary depending on autonomous wards.
