The seventh Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF), which will open on Apr. 27, has received a total of 888 film submissions, the largest number in its history.
According to the JIFF on Feb. 14, its secretariat has received a total of 888 films, including 523 domestic films and 365 foreign movies, as of Feb. 6.
Of the domestic films, 35 are full-length films, 385 are short movies, and 103 are animated films. The number of domestic films shows a 38 percent increase from last year. A total of 186 foreign films were submitted for screening from 32 countries last year. But this year, 100 full-length foreign films and 265 short films have been submitted from 48 countries. Of those, short domestic films will be screened by a four-person panel of film critics at the "Korean Short Films' Choices: Critics' Week" section.
A total of 365 films from 48 countries which have been submitted to the International Competition Division will be screened by a jury at the "Vision of Independent Films" and "Digital Spectrum" sections.
The "Vision of Independent Films" section will introduce independent, epic films and documentary movies characterized by new styles and aesthetic appeal and produced by rookie film directors from around the world. The "Useok Award" and prize money of 10,000 dollars will go to the best film in this section.
Of all digital films in all genres including epic, documentary, medium-length, and short films, the "Digital Spectrum" section will show those films with the highest cinematographical value and most outstanding research on digital cameras as a film production medium. The "JJ-StˇÚr Award" and 1 dollar in prize money will go to the best film.
