Hwang Chang-gyu picked as one of 10 Big Thinkers by Newsweek

June 16, 2005

Hwang Chang-gyu, CEO of Samsung Electronics' semiconductor business, has been picked as one of the 10 Big Thinkers for Big Business of the World by news magazine Newsweek.

Hwang, 52, says technology pioneers should model themselves on Genghis Khan, the nomadic Mongolian warrior who used the superior speed and mobility of his horseback legions to conquer much of Asia in the 13th century.

"If you are content with today's tech and stay there like farmers, you will be wiped out by new tech brought by nomads," Hwang was quoted by the latest edition of the U.S. weekly magazine.

Samsung under Hwang has been credited with doubling semiconductor capacity every 12 months.
