Ginseng's Medicinal Effects


In the Oriental medicinal tradition, ginseng is used for promoting general health, facilitating heart function, strengthening the stomach, balancing the different functions of the body, sedating and supplementing nutrition. Specifically, it is prescribed for alleviating indigestion, vomiting, heart pain, diarrhea, and appetite loss, among many others. In Japan, it is widely used as an important home remedy to stop bleeding and to heal burns and inflammations including mucous membrane inflammation. Chinese panax has been used to stop bleeding, to sedate, to alleviate pain, and to heal inflammations and cuts. Researchers report that ginseng has been proven effective in treating diabetes and high blood pressure, promoting brain activity and blood circulation, improving sexual function, and fighting cancer and preventing the accumulation of dioxins in the body. In general, the seven representative effects of ginseng are: supplementing energy and reinvigorating body; promoting blood production and restoring the heartbeat; strengthening the heart and balancing the overall body condition; relieving thirst; improving lung function; strengthening the spleen and treating diarrhea; facilitating the removal of toxic substances from the body and healing wounds.
